Is this another BL this season? And with an age gap at that? Although, I guess, Hikaru is technically older than Yoshiki, too. Or am I reading too much into it? I mean, it's clear that one of the themes would be about Satomi working through his natural body changes, especially voice, so it can end up being wholesome. Giving it a chance to see how they plan to develop things further.
One thing to note though: yes! Finally! Someone said it out loud: not all voices fit all songs. I heard so many covers that just did not fit the voice, no matter how the person tried. Sometimes it was not even a cover, but just something in overall melody was coming into dissonance with the voice. When this whole thing with Emily Armstrong replacing Chester in Linkin Park blew up, my only problem with that was that they did a few older songs that just did not fit her voice and they sounded wrong to me.
I had the same reaction, when Nookie replaced If in Russian band Slot, and they re-released the album "2 Wars" without changing anything in the songs. If had a more melodic and soothing voice compared to Nookie and when Nookie was singing the melodic parts, it just did not fit. They did seem to adjust the songs for future live concerts, though, so it got better.
Point is, you may need to find a song that suits your voice. Or at least do not just "cover" a song, make a "rendition". Like, adjust pieces of the song to match your voice better. Look at good covers like... Dunno, Alien Ant Farm's "Smooth Criminal" or Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams". These are not just "same song with different singer", but rather a "different take on the original". And if you do not hear the difference... Perhaps you need a professional music/singing teacher or something.
