I remember anime being somewhat disjointed and hectic at times, too, but this rendition felt much more disjointed from the get-go, as if it was a collection of 4-koma adaptations (without the humor typical to the format). Did they cut a lot of things to fit it into 2 movies? Or am I misremembering the original, which I really liked (apparently even rated it 10/10)? Or did I grow up somehow and now see that it was not that good in the first place?
