I am not even buying the premise. Or rather the backstory of Dariel. Let's assume him being a demon without magic. How would he be a soldier for 30 years while being such a wimp? Obviously it's not really 30, but even if it's 20... He does not seem to have much muscle and regular weapons are like a novelty to him, which does not make sense: magic or not, a soldier should be able to fight.
