It's definitely not for the fans of the game. Not really. Although the anime and manga that came before it also were not, but I think, at least, the anime was set in the same universe. But that's fine, it's not a requirement, after all.
Problem is that it's not about Dante. Yes, Dante is here, he plays a role, but I would argue that Lady stole the show. And maybe Rabbit. Maybe a few other side characters. Dante feels almost like a plot device here, rather than a character. I would say that Rabbit's story is far more fleshed-out. Arkham's story is even more fleshed out than Dante's.
He still can be pretty cool, but even in that regard Lady... Is just cooler, probably because she is also human, and because her soft side is more obvious. Which would be fine, if the story was told from Lady's perspective, but it's not. It's not exactly told from Dante's either, since there is just not enough of him, but not from Lady's either.
Despite that, the show can be brain-dead enjoyable, no argument about that. Soundtrack is great and can be impactful. I am waiting for 2nd season, to be honest. Just not as excitedly, as I would wait for the 6th (7th) game when it's announced.
